Service to others is one of the pillars of Scouting for Troop 19. Scouting has, from its inception, been deeply rooted in the concept of doing for others. “Do a Good Turn Daily” is a core Scouting precept. Scouting encourages young people to recognize the needs of others and take action accordingly. Scouting works through neighborhoods, volunteer organizations, and faith-based organizations to help young people appreciate and respond to the needs of others.
Troop 19 in the Community
These are just a few of the ways that Troop 19 has provided service to the community:
- Tri-Shark Race – Scouts and parents assisted with pre-race set up, bike course guiding, and post-race clean up.
- Park 2 Park Run – Scouts and parents volunteered to guide racers on the path.
- McLean County Fair – Our job is to keep the fair grounds and the parking lots trash free.
- Nursing Home Activities – Scouts and visiting Webelos carve pumpkins on a cool October night and deliver them to local nursing homes.
Scouts and parents go caroling at a local nursing home on the Monday night prior to Christmas. - Unit 5 Holiday Giving – Scouts and parents spent a busy December Saturday morning delivering gifts to over 110 families. The scouts were treated to smiles and thank yous from all the children and parents.
- Salvation Army – Doing the Most Good. Scouts and Venture crew members participated in Ringing Bells at many local supermarkets throughout the month of December.
- Scouts also participate with our sponsoring organization’s activities.
